01.12.09 | PSIC in Global The Hague Magazine. Article: "A Safer Society"

On 3 November 2009, the Public Security Innovation Center (PSIC) is set to open in the World Forum. PSIC is an ultramodern demo center that serves as a platform for the latest technologies designed to prevent and control incidents and disasters. The state-of-the-art demo room will be used to demonstrate technologies from all parts of the world that can help us make our society safer. The cinema-like environment is equipped with a 3-metre-high, 7-metre-wide screen, flanked by command tables and control tables that are used to simulate risk scenarios.

This allows participants in PSIC to demonstrate their products much more effectively through simulated-reality games. These demonstrations are attended by law enforcement officers, fire departments and civil servants responsible for public safety, as well as by security officers employed by large organisations.

In addition to the demo center, PSIC also provides its Dutch participants with access to international markets, by supporting and facilitating international expansion through trade missions, matchmaking, participation in trade fairs and through the collective registration for international grant programmes. The centre recently organised a successful mission to South Africa, which led to instant export opportunities for the participants.

The City of The Hague and the Ministry of Economic Affairs support PSIC as part of their commitment to ensuring that The Hague becomes a centre of excellence in safety.
PSIC’s Managing Director Léon de Bruijn and CEO Emmie van Halder are the driving force behind the centre: “We had wanted to establish a centre of this kind for a long time and are delighted that the City of The Hague has finally facilitated this. The Hague, being an international hub, is the perfect location for PSIC, right alongside Europol, the Organisation for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons and the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia”.
PSIC works in close partnership with the West Holland Foreign Investment Agency, which promotes PSIC in the United States as an efficient way for security technology companies to enter the European market.

The first U.S. company to join the initiative is KZO, a state-of-the-art live video provider. Scot Edwards, CMO (Chief Marketing Officer) of KZO: "PSIC allows us to enter the European public security market in a hassle-free and low-cost way. We believe our technology can benefit many in Europe, and welcome this initiative that accelerates our internationalization." www.kzoinnovations.com.
